Saturday's Tree Care event was a success! The trees along Alameda Street are now healthier and happier than ever!
TreePeople rolled in with their tuck at 8:00am stocked with equipment to make for a successful tree care event!
Volunteers prepared by dispersing mulch into buckets and watching a short demo on how to clean and mulch the tree wells.
Above, Michael (a student from UCLA) and Jorge (a recent CSUN graduate), practice their new skills and create a berm around the young tree that will collect water when it rains. They later apply mulch to protect the soil, seal in moisture, and reduce evaporation (Above right - tree well before and after cleaning).
Coach Ron, a Skid Row community volunteer and supporter, came to help! Here he is posing with host Pam Gibson from TreePeople.
So many volunteers came to help and worked so hard that there was time to re-stake two trees! Thank you for your help re-staking, Pam!
Now that is one happy tree!
Industrial District Green would like to give a special thanks to Pam Gibson and TreePeople for hosting this event; Industrial District BID (CCEA), LA Cold Storage, and Larry Rauch for allowing access to the property; Raquel Beard for securing the space; the Valero Gas Station for lending a ladder and being cool; Coach Ron, Skid Row's super-volunteer; and all the WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS who spent their Saturday contributing to the Downtown LA community!
Thank you all!
